I paint portraits in oils and acrylics, in many different styles. My aim is to make every portrait distinctive and personal. Sometimes I paint in traditional classical portrait styles, sometimes in black and white only – while other times I like to break all the rules, in order to render the portrait with greater meaning to the subject and the viewer. One such painting is Nakoma – a deeply spiritual painting which incorporates the subjects spiritual views, his heritage and philosophy. To me a portrait is a feeling of reality – more a mood rather than a photographic likeness.
